E. H. Ijams was the eleventh president of the school. He attended Florence State Norma, the University of Chicago, the University of Alabama, the University of Southern California, and George Peabody College. Milestones during his presidency include the Brewer Bell Tower erected (1935), the campus print shop, the campus phone system, the first high school football team (1935), the first spring vacation (1937), the first graduating class over 100 (1939), and the football field and clay tennis courts built.
